What I Learned From Miley Cyrus

In 2013, Americans twerked to the tune of Miley Cyrus. She was constantly making headlines, often for the wrong reasons. If you can look past the headline scandals you can learn a thing or two from this 21 year old ex-Disney Channeler.

1. Be True To Yourself- Miley has become a star with a unique sense of style and a notable personality. Unlike other megastars (coughgagacough) she maintains the her individuality without doing it purely for attention. Miley tries to outdo herself and no one else.

2. Don't Let Anyone Stop You- Prior to Miley, twerking was a dance move reserved for big booty girls. Miley's rump may be small, but twerk it she will! Just because she isn't a homegirl with a big butt doesn't mean she won't twerk with pride.

3. Keep Some Things Private- As Miley started to rise to fame, the press become curious about her relationship with Liam Hemsworth. Miley kept quiet for a while. She wanted to focus on her career and wanted to promote her album. When the time was right, she finally spoke about the relationship.

4. Stand Up For What You Believe In- Miley stands up for causes. If you've read an interview with her she supports woman's rights and marriage equality. And of course, she allows herself to be a spokesperson for marijuana legalization.

5. Take Chances- In 2010 Miley boldly claimed that she couldn't be tamed. In 2013, she proved it. Her new album was a different sound for her, but it paid off.

6. Allow Yourself To Be Vulnerable- Let your guard down, or Miley will knock to down with a wrecking ball.

7. Be Unapologetic- Apologize when warranted, but don't apologize for being true to yourself. Have you seen Miley apologize for her We Can't Stop Video? Her VMAs performance? Her smoking in Amsterdam? Nope. And you probably never will.

Embrace Miley this holiday season.
