As a huge fan of the first Anchorman, I knew I would see the second one. Of course I was worried it would shame the name of the first one, but I loved the first so much that I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss out on the second.
So here's the quick and dirty: I recommend you see it. However, it is not as good as the first. I can say that I laughed frequently throughout the movie and it was funnier than most other movies I saw this year.
The movie features all the people you loved from the first, and then steps it up a notch by featuring some new and notable additions. Most notable are Will Farrell's fellow SNL alum Chris Parnell and Kristen Wiig as well as Meagan Good and James Marsden.
Additionally, there were at least a dozen notable cameos such as: Vince Vaughn, Will Smith, Kanye West, Drake, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford, among others.
While the movie did deliver in the laugh department, many of the jokes seemed to be trying to hard. They seemed over the top, even for Ron Burgundy. These jokes are especially apparent through Steve Carell's character Brick.
Another thing that I found odd about the movie was its lack of some of the jokes seen in previews. While there are scenes that resemble what we saw in the previews, the actual quotes from the movie were missing. Not that I was disappointed by the lack of these jokes, but I had been expecting to see them.
Overall, I do recommend this movie, especially if you're a fan of Will Farrell and/or the first Anchorman movie. Just don't expect it to top the first, but it's not going to ruin your opinion of this series.
