Snow No

During my childhood, news of snow brought excitement: The potential of no school, winter activities, excuses to stay home all day. Then I grew up, and all of these childhood pleasures disappeared.

The entire state of Massachusetts is snowed in, and I'm one of those annoying people who goes around talking about how much he hates the snow. Some people love it, and if you ski or snowboard I completely understand. I will say, however, that I find nothing more annoying that people respond to my hatred toward snow with comments such as ",welcome to New England. Just because I'm from New England doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the weather...bitches.

As a young adult, I now understand why my parents always dreaded the thought of snow. It's a burden, it slows everything down, and it makes everything cold.

Work doesn't ever get cancelled. The reason you can no long stay at home all day is because of work. Not only are you tormented by the fact that you have to trudge all the way to work, but you have to wake up earlier to allot time for traffic and to clean off the car.

And those winter activities such as sledding, snowball fights, and make snowmen... it's not longer socially acceptable for me to partake in them.

Of course, there is the fact that snow makes everything look pretty. After all of the leaves have fallen and died it's nice to see the death of fall covered up. Then the snow melts, much slower than it falls. And for months after the storm we have filthy cars, gigantic snowbanks, and muddy discharge.

With all of this snow-negativity, I hope I can visit California soon.
