The makers of Family Guy pulled a fast one on as, and I need to give them credit. They had everyone believing that Brian, the Griffin's family dog, was dead. He was even replaced by another dog named Vinny. And Alas, Brian is back.
Family Guy reaped so much free promotion from this stunt, and I can't even blame them for doing it. Many fans of the show have stopped watching new episodes in their original airing, but the introduction of a new character motivated viewers to tune in.
Like any character who gets replaced (such as Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men), people are initially curious about the change. They tune in for an episode or two, but interest fades once people realize the new character is not as good as the previous.
Family Guy used this to their advantage, and viewers breathed a sign of relief to see Brian back.
Seth MacFarlane even took to Twitter, claiming that he'd have to be high to get rid of Brian. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprise if he was high for the past month, but he must have come down form his high because Brian is back!
