Generation Cryo

Every time I turn on MTV I see commercials for this show "Generation Cryo," a documentary series that chronicles a girl on a quest to meet all of her half siblings. The catch? Her father was a sperm donor. She has spent her whole life knowing she was the product of a sperm donor because her mothers are lesbians. Her half-siblings are not necessarily in the same situation and some are reluctant to agree to participate in this mission.

I genuinely don't understand why this girl thinks this journey is acceptable. Things like this should be reserved for Vince Vaughn movies, not real life documentaries (assuming the show is real). Perhaps if the girl has medical reasons for finding her donor, such as wanted to know genetic information, I would consider he quest acceptable, but I feel this journey interferes with too many lives.

Some of the individuals who are contacted may not know that they're products of this sperm donations. Others feel that participating in her journey will be disrespectful to their families who have loved and cared for them over the years. And of course, there is the sperm donor himself who thought he was escaping the burden of looking after children by donating his sperm.

While the concept of the show is interesting, I just can't get behind the idea that people need to find their sperm donor for the sake of making a documentary. These children were born into families who have been committed to raising them, and I would rather these parents get respected by their children than the children look for a donor who wants nothing to do with them.

Just my thoughts.
