In the middle of 2012, I was already worried that I was on Santa's naughty list. I needed a way to look better in the eyes of Santa, and walk a couple of steps closer to heaven, so I decided to invest in a pair of Toms.
When I decided to buy my Toms, I made sure to buy a pair with laces. I'm not a fan of the espadrilles, despite the fact that they were cheaper than the pair I purchased. And I will admit that I was happy to hear that the quality of the shoes the company donates to kids in Africa is better than the quality of the pair I received. They felt flimsy, though mine have yet to show damage (I don't wear them often). So my noble deed was done!
Now that I have moved one step closer to sainthood, I have thought about what I did for the world. Sure, a kid has a pair of Toms, but do the children in Africa want Toms? If there's one thing I know about kids, it's that they want Nikes. Plus, Toms doesn't need to promote their product in Africa. They're literally giving them away. For the price I paid for these shoes I feel the recipient deserves a quality product. At least I am able to take comfort in the fact that Toms replaces shoes when the child outgrows his/her pair. This somewhat justifies the price I paid.
All joking aside, I like the brand and I like what they're doing. They've pretty much relied on word on the street to promote the product. So good for them, and if you're feeling morally deprived then buy some Toms.
