I Don't Like Thanksgiving

It's late on Thanksgiving night. Facebook and Twitter are blowing up with people commenting on how much they've eaten. Or they're lined up outside of a Best Buy trying to get a Playstation 4 to sell on eBay. Many of these people love this holiday, but I'm not one of those people.

Now, I love turkey; I like most of the foods associated with the holiday. But I eat every day. In fact, I probably overeat every day. I really don't need another holiday that encourages me to eat myself sick and fat. I suppose there is also the "giving thanks" aspect of the holiday, but who really participates in that? Most people will post that they're tankful for family online and then proceed to argue with their family over dinner. Even if you're not arguing with family, I feel that expressions of thanks for those that you care about should occur more than once a year.

This year, black Friday has encouraged people to leave their homes and spend their money on Thanksgiving night. The holiday is increasingly becoming associated with the beginning of Christmas spending. While I'm not opposed to Christmas shopping, I don't see a need for it invade the remaining shreds of positive left in the holiday. Can't we just wait until Friday for "Black Friday?"

I realize this post was overly pessimistic, and if you're a fan of Thanksgiving I hope you enjoyed your holiday.  As for me, I'm just happy I got pie.
